Hello! 

Good morning, Southlands families. I am very excited to start the new school year and get to know this community. I have heard such great things about the school, and I can’t wait to meet all the students next Tuesday.  

Tuesday Sept 3^rd  

On Tuesday, Grade 1-7 students will attend for 1 hour, from 9:00-10:00. All returning students will join their class from last year. If your child cannot attend on Tuesday, please let the office know. We are trying to figure out our numbers for this year and every bit of info helps! 

Wednesday Sept 4-Friday Sept 6^th 

The rest of the week will be full days (except for the kindergarten class, more on that later). Students will stay with their class from last year for the first few days. Students will not move to their new classrooms until we have approval from the district, I can’t give you an estimate right now as to when we’ll move into new classes, but I will keep you up to date.  

Please bring lunch and a snack on Wednesday, it’s a full day! For those that are on the school lunch program, it will not start until Thursday so please make sure to bring a lunch on Wednesday.

Kindergarten Gradual Entry 

We will host our Kindergarten Open House on Tuesday September 3rd from 10:30-11:30. New K students do not attend from 9:00-10:00 on Tuesday, please only come at 10:30 for the Open House. Parents/caregivers will attend the Open House on Tuesday as well. We will see you outside by the Garden at the front of the school. 

Construction 

As you may have noticed there is a lot of construction around the school. Some of the routes are blocked off and to be honest, some of the detours have not worked very well for me 😊 (I’m still getting used to the neighbourhood!). Give yourself an extra few minutes for drop-off time while we all adjust to the different traffic patterns. 

New Timetable 

There is a slightly adjusted timetable this year. School will start at 9:00am and the end of the day will be 2:58 (instead of 3:03). 

New Students 

All new Grade 1-7 students can report to the office when they arrive at Southlands on Tuesday. New students will be in the library and then assigned to a temporary, age-appropriate class.
