Important information & frequently asked questions:
LEAVING/RETURNING STUDENTS
Planning on leaving French Immersion and staying at Tech ? Here’s what you need to do:
- Confirm the decision with your parents, counsellor and French Immersion Department Head
- Schedule a placement assessment with the Modern languages teacher so you can be placed in the correct FSL class
- Questions ? Reach out to the French Immersion or Modern Languages Department Head
- If you are coming from another school (ie. mini school program) make sure VanTech is your French Immersion catchment school
- Reach out to your grade counsellor at your current school and at VanTech
- Have your parents contact the records clerk to provide the transfer information
- Email the French Immersion Department Head and schedule a placement assessment
- You do not need to study for this assessment
- After the assessment, The FRIMM Dept Head, you and your parents will chat about how to be successful in French Immersion and double check it will be the right fit
- Your counsellor will build your timetable and you can start your learning journey at VanTech!

Planning on returning to French Immersion? We gladly accept previous French Immersion students entering back in grade 8 and/or 9 in the fall

Accepted to TREK?! Congratulations!
…wait does that mean you’ll be missing one full year of French immersion classes? YES.
Is there work you can complete to assure graduation from French Immersion? YES.
Are there steps you need to take before TREK starts? YES. See Below :)
Meetings
After Spring Break, you will meet with your counsellor, French Immersion Department Head and parents/ guardians. Together we will discuss what you are responsible for completing to get your FRIMM Credits and what your return to French Immersion could look like after 1 year away.

Assignments and Deadlines
Can I C-S as part of my volunteer hours? NO. You can sign up as a Peer tutor in a French Immersion Class (ScHum 8-10, FRAL 8-10, ScNat 8-10)
All your TREK assignments are due the last Friday in September of your Grade 12 year. You will get a reminder in the spring
