Considerable effort has been made to offer courses that provide alternatives for students so that they may meet graduation requirements as defined by the Ministry of Education, and also concentrate on areas of special interest. Students are required to take a minimum of 80 credits over Grades 10, 11 and 12, some in specific subject areas (see Graduation Program Course Checklist).  Additional information is available from the Ministry of Education.

Students in Grades 11 and 12 who are interested in post-secondary programs usually must meet specific program requirements that go beyond Ministry minimums.  All students need to take note of post-secondary prerequisite courses when making longer-range plans. 

Provincial Assessments

As of the 2021 - 22 school year, the new 2018 Graduation Program is fully implemented by the Ministry of Education, including Provincial Assessments.  Please see below for a summary of required provincial assessments, by grade.  More information is available from the Ministry of Education. 

Students in Grade 10:  Will write two assessments, the Grade 10 Graduation Numeracy Assessment and the Grade 10 Graduation Literacy Assessment. 

Students in Grade 11:  Most have completed the Grade 10 Graduation Numeracy Assessment and Grade 10 Graduation Literacy Assessment.  If these were not written the previous year, they will be done in Grade 11.  

Students in Grade 12:  Most have completed the Grade 10 Graduation Numeracy Assessment and Grade 10 Graduation Literacy Assessment.  If not written previously, they must be written this year.  The Grade 12 Graduation Literacy Assessment must be written this year as a requirement for graduation.

Grading and Rewriting Provincial Graduation Assessments:  All three Provincial Assessments are graded on a scale of 1 - 4.  Any result will satisfy requirements for graduation.  However, students may rewrite an assessment if unsatisfied with their initial result.  This can be arranged by contacting their counsellor well in advance of published assessment dates in order to express their intention to rewrite and to be registered.
