The Vancouver School Board is partnered with the Finishing Trades Institute of BC to offer the SkilledTradesBC Youth and TRAIN in Trades Painting and Decorating program.

Program Details   

The program is taught at the Finishing Trades Institute in Surrey, and runs from June to July. Classes are held Monday to Friday.

The School District covers the cost of tuition. However, students will be responsible for purchasing their own program learning resources and safety equipment.  

Please note that students must be in grades 10 or 11 to apply for Youth Train in Trades programs. Grade 12 students may apply for Youth Train in Trades only if they can complete their program before they finish grade 12.

Course Contents

Students will be introduced to common coatings, surface preparation and the tools used in the trade, including airless spray. An extensive safety program includes respirator training, fall protection, ladder and scaffold training and WHMIS.
